The Ford B-Max arrives to consolidate Ford’s strength in the MPV market.
The B-Max measures just over four meters, is only 13 centimeters longer than the Ford Fiesta with a five-door body and a total of 30 centimeters shorter than the Ford C-Max. The Ford B-Max sets a new benchmark for compact minivans through a unique body concept, with a dynamic design and a practical interior.
The original access system has unconventional features, with hinges on the front doors and sliding rear doors. The traditional structure of the central pillar is integrated in the front and rear doors, instead of being part of the body itself. When both doors are open you can access the interior without equal, with an opening of more than 1.5 meters wide.
This is about twice the width offered by competitors with alternative door concepts and makes it much easier to enter or exit the rear seats. Ford has applied its ‘Kinetic Design’ to create a compact, versatile and stylish car that adds its own character to the manufacturer’s range.
Its exterior design has a front in which a new interpretation of the trapezoid grill stands out. Other distinctive elements of the Ford B-Max include bulky optics, the muscular line along the body, and prominent wheel arches. The interior also has the same approach. The interior surfaces develop certain features found in the recent small and medium cars of the Ford range.
Distinctive features include the thin section and upper part of the instrument panel that reaches the door panels, or the prominent console in the center until it reaches the bottom, between the front seats. The High quality materials emphasize attention to detail.
The choice of premium materials includes a complete leather upholstery with high quality styling, while the option of the full panoramic roof increases the feeling of space. The flexible seating system has 60/40 divisible rear seats, which can be folded up to be flat.
The front passenger seat can also be folded, creating an extensive cargo floor inside, suitable for loads with lengths of up to 2.34 meters. The trunk of the Ford B-Max is not very wide, but its 304 liters give ample for a pair of large suitcases and also hides a small hole under the ground.
The loading edge is 70 centimeters from the ground and when the backs are folded the bottom is flat, because the seats have a special folding system that automatically moves them slightly downwards. In terms of safety, the Ford B-Max offers seven airbags: airbags for the driver and front passenger, side airbags for the chest, curtain airbags that occupy the entire cabin and airbag for the driver’s knees.
Also, the Ford B-Max can be equipped with a set of technology and assistance to help the driver in any aspect of driving. Among others, the following stand out: an exclusive eight-speaker ‘Sony’ sound system, the new automatic system for air conditioning control, the ‘Ford Key Free’ keyless access and start-up system, the rear camera for parking assistance, the ‘Quickclear’ heated windshield or the ‘Ford Easy Fuel’ capless refueling system.
The Ford B-Max is the manufacturer’s first vehicle to offer the company’s ‘Sync’ system. It is an advanced voice control system, device integration and connectivity interface. It allows users to connect mobile phones and music players via Bluetooth or USB, make hands-free calls and control music and other functions using voice commands. It also includes the emergency call assistant ‘Ford Help SOS’: a device that automatically uses the mobile phone to notify emergency services when it detects that the vehicle is in an accident.
The range of engines offered by the Ford B-Max is clearly oriented to efficiency. The one that most important is the oval mark is the three-cylinder ‘EcoBoost’ of 999 cubic centimeters, which is available in two power ranges: 100 and 125CV. This second has ‘Start-Stop’, which allows it to offer reduced emissions, the best in its category.
Although the gasoline range also has a 1.6 ‘Duratec’ propeller and six-speed ‘Powershift’ automatic transmission with 105CV of power. In the diesel section, a new 1.5 ‘TDCi’ 75CV and 1.6 ‘TDCi’ 95CV engine is offered, which also achieves contained emissions.
All versions of the Ford B-Max they have standard ‘ECOnetic’ saving technology, which includes the ‘Electric Power Assisted Steering’ power steering, which requires less energy than hydraulic power steering systems, the ‘Gear Shift Indicator’ to signal the moments of change of more efficient driving, and the driver information system ‘Ford Eco Mode’, which helps drivers adopt a more economical driving style. In addition to the ‘Smart Regenerative Charging’, which charges the battery at the most economical point of a trip.
