Have you ever heard of the Triumph Motor Company brand or Triumph TR Series TR6 ?
A small British brand that, between 1863 and 1951, offered a range of vehicles that marked the English automotive design line.
Today we have rescued one of its most mythical models, the Triumph TR6, an elegant model that, for those in love with the English aestheticism of the 70s, is a temptation difficult to resist.
When Triumph turned to Giovanni Michelotti, designer of the previous model (the TR4), they found that he had designed a model that was too continuous from the previous one. The TR6 was going to be a simple upgrade to the TR4, something they couldn’t afford since Triumph.
For this reason, they contacted the company Karmann, a specialist in convertible design for such prestigious brands as BMW, Audi or Volkswagen. They asked him to adapt his famous Kamm tail to the TR6 and from then on all the Triumphs would use it.
The final design was, in terms of bodywork, similar to the TR4, but the touch of the Kamm tail was the trigger for sales.
The hidden problems of the TR6
Despite being the best-selling Triumph vehicle in history (both in Europe and the United States), there were thousands of detractors of the model worldwide. And what were his complaints?
Low liquid level radiator: it caused numerous failures in the radiator and the ventilation system that overheated the vehicle.
Defective handbrake: It stopped working over time and its ability to “support” the car on slopes was beyond question.
Mold problems: mold appeared throughout the interior of the car after it was not taken care of.
Despite these problems, Triumph lovers number in the millions worldwide. In fact, today there are still Triumph clubs where you can find parts for this TR6, modifications to improve it and repair kits.
